Penbeam Graduation celebrates transformation of ECD Centres into Centres of Excellence

by Tia

MBOMBELA – Penreach, a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to education transformation in South Africa, proudly announces the celebration of the Penbeam Graduation on 29 February 2024. This event marks a significant milestone in the journey of 32 Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres, which have been transformed into Centres of Excellence through the dedicated support of Penreach and its partners.

At the outset of Penreach’s involvement, these ECD centers faced numerous challenges, including lack of support in terms of registration and operations, in line with Department of Education (DoE) regulations.

However, through the comprehensive assistance provided by Penreach, these centres have undergone remarkable improvements. They are now compliant with governance standards, financial management practices, health and safety regulations and the delivery of quality early learning experiences that positively contribute to holistic development of children to mention a few. These centres have received support in terms of coaching, mentoring and training by Penreach Change Agents over the past two years – aligned to the Penreach Essential Package.

The criteria for Penbeam Centres encompass various aspects, including meeting Department of Basic Education (DBE) requirements, having necessary policies in place, maintaining good governance practices and engaging with communities and parents. Additionally, these centres boast natural playgrounds, well-equipped classrooms and practitioners who follow best teaching practices.

“Today, I proudly hold the title of a professional ECD teacher. I am eager to continue my journey and achieve even more. The skills and knowledge gained through the Penreach intervention are invaluable and have been instrumental, not only in terms of personal growth, but also the growth of the centre. I owe my current success to Penreach,” one of the beneficiaries, Ms Ntombikayise Siboza of New Hope Educare said.

Penreach extends heartfelt gratitude to its partners whose support has been instrumental in this journey towards excellence. Special thanks to Sasol, Sappi, and FEM (The Federated Employers Mutual Assurance Company)  for their unwavering commitment to early childhood development and education transformation in South Africa.

The Penbeam Graduation serves as a testament to the transformative power of collaboration and dedication in advancing education and creating brighter futures for children in South Africa. Penreach remains steadfast in its mission to empower communities and nurture the potential of every child.
