It’s time again for Schoolscape, South Africa’s premier education technology (edtech) conference. Hosted in three cities during August, Schoolscape will once again welcome hundreds of local educators and edtech providers to meet, mingle, and look at the future of the classroom. The event will occur in Cape Town on 15 August, KwaZulu-Natal on 22 August, and Gauteng on 29 August, attracting the country’s top school decision-makers, eager educators, and education-focused IT managers.

Acer Africa is again supporting this excellent and crucial gathering as a sponsor and exhibitor, helping attendees decide how to prepare their learners for the future. Acer will partner with First Technology at the Cape Town and KwaZulu-Natal events and with Neo Technology at the Johannesburg event, ensuring a broader reach and enhanced support for its educational offerings

Schoolscape targets all educators, from grade R to tertiary institutions, and Acer Africa is ready to engage with all of them. We will showcase the Acer for Education range, covering primary and high schools, colleges, universities, labs, and esports.

Experience the best classroom devices

Schoolscape attendees can visit the Acer stand and try Acer’s Windows 11 and ChromeOS devices first-hand. These rugged, affordable, and future-proof laptops are designed to enhance education, including specialised features such as user-sensing technology to enhance security and provide reminders to take breaks. They incorporate new AI features to smooth online video lessons and durability for a day at school.

Acer will showcase other devices and technologies, including award-winning projectors, locally manufactured monitors, and education software such as Microsoft Learning Essentials, Google Workspace for Education, and the Edumate learning platform.

During the conference, Acer Africa’s country manager and director, Glenn du Toit, will present “Shifting from Search to Ask.” He will explore how generative artificial intelligence is changing our world, how to prepare for an AI-enhanced future, and emphasising human intellect and interactions as the centre of creativity and innovation.

“There is a lot of uncertainty about AI and how it affects our future, but that’s just one aspect of the larger technology conversation,” says Du Toit. “Schoolscape provides an open and engaging space where all education’s stakeholders will gather and share their thoughts on how we prepare ourselves, our students, and our classrooms. I look forward to having conversations with teachers and technologists, especially to hear their ambitions and concerns on how they want to use technology.”

A gathering for the education-minded

Schoolscape 2024 will divide its topics into five arenas: Edtech Software, School Management, Coding & Robotics, Edtech Hardware, and Finance & Administration. Attendees can focus on their top priorities and explore other opportunities to modernise education.

The conference is also a great occasion to share experiences with different education practitioners, including educators, IT managers, edtech implementers, principals, deputy principals, heads of departments, and finance teams. Together, they will explore solutions to today’s most pressing classroom challenges and build a network of like-minded professionals. The official Schoolscape conference app will play a key role in these interactions.

Above all, Schoolscape is there for educators who want to learn and be heard. While Acer Africa will showcase its products and services, the main attraction is to engage with teachers, administrators, and IT managers—hearing their needs, concerns, and ambitions, and discussing how they can select the right technologies to meet their goals.

“The top complaint from teachers about technology is that there’s sometimes more focus on adding new gadgets to classrooms and not enough emphasis on aligning technology with classroom goals,” says Ashleig Viljoen, Schoolscape’s General Manager and Director. “Schoolscape exists to address this issue. We provide a space where educators and edtech providers can meet and share experiences, without any pressure. We also have a great selection of speakers to entertain and inform our attendees, and we’re thrilled to have Glenn and the crew from Acer Africa to be part of the proceedings. Together, we can move education forward!”

Schoolscape 2024 takes place in Cape Town on 15 August, KwaZulu-Natal on 22 August, and Gauteng on 29 August.
